There are a lot of people in the United States who want to become an occupational therapist today because of the excellent pay and benefits that come with this job. As an occupational therapist you will work with people of all ages who have a variety of disabilities.

The Occupational Therapist's Job

Occupational therapists help people with developmental, emotional, mental and physical disabilities. These people may have autism, birth injuries, cerebral palsy, developmental delays or another type of medical condition. While in a hospital or a healthcare center the occupational therapist works with them to regain the ability to independently perform the daily tasks of living. Regardless of the setting, an occupational therapist must have a bachelor's degree or diploma.

The Occupational Therapist's Treatment Procedure

The way in which an occupational therapist works with their patient is based upon age, diagnosis, history and the type of injury that the patient has. Sometimes an occupational therapist will recommend special adaptive equipment for their patients. All of this is based upon a comprehensive evaluation that is done of the patient by the occupational therapist.

Benefits of Working as an Occupational Therapist

Many people find a career in occupational therapy to be quite satisfying. This is not only because occupational therapists make good money but because they get to help people who have physical or mental challenges. A lot of them also enjoy the fact that they get to work in advanced facilities with well-qualified colleagues on either a full or part-time basis.
